Can you be healthy just by eating fruits? Yes, you can, is the popular reply from people who follow the fruitarian diet. Fruitarian diet is, in fact, many centuries old and it was followed by many popular figures in history from Da Vinci to Steve Jobs. It is even claimed that Mahatma Gandhi followed this kind of diet for some part of his life. So what exactly is a fruitarian diet? How can you follow it? Will it suit you?

Fruitarianism is a part of Veganism, there are fruitarian people who just eat fruits, literally 100% fruits, and there are some who include vegetables along with fruits. And there is another category of people who include nuts and pulses along with fruits. Eating just fruits and nuts can be termed as a fruitarian diet in general. So it negates vegetables and meat.

How to eat?

If you have consumed a particular fruit type, you are forbidden from consuming any other fruit type for the next 45 to 90 minutes. If your craving didn’t end, then you are supposed to continue eating the same fruit type. Doing so will lessen the desire to eat further reducing your craving for more food. You are not required to drink a lot of water while following this diet, but you might have to drink some water if you include vegetables along with fruits.

Fruitarian diet is void of carbohydrates, fats, and proteins, so you will gradually start to lose weight. For some, this diet can weaken them due to lack of nutrients. if that’s the case then it is essential to consult a Medical practitioner immediately if you experience too many signs of weakness, tiredness and lack of enthusiasm.

Who needs to avoid this type of diet?

Though fruitarian diet may sound appealing to some, especially with the way it makes you lose weight. However, it will not suit everyone. Pregnant women must definitely avoid following this diet. People who suffer from anemia, calcium deficiency, Vitamin B-12 deficiency, Iron deficiency must avoid this diet. If you are someone who loves food, it is better to avoid this diet as well, as it may have a negative effect on the long run.

Day’s Chart for Fruitarian Diet

From Morning 6 am to 9 am

Drink lemon juice made of 2 to 5 lemons immediately after waking up. Eat a lot of watermelons till you feel full. Do include nuts and pulses so that you get enough fat content for your body.

Mid-Morning 11 am

Eat apples, pineapple, grapes, fig, plums, kiwi, cucumber till you feel full stomach.

Afternoon from 1 pm to 2 pm

Orange, sweet lime, apricot, papaya fruits can be consumed to your capacity, you can also include some nuts for fat supply.

Post Afternoon – 4 pm to 5 pm

Mango, cherries, strawberry, plums, pomegranate, banana and watermelon can be consumed

Dinner from 7 pm to 9 pm

Grapes, blackberry, raspberry, cherry, strawberry, plums, watermelon, pomegranate can be consumed for dinner, you can include banana to get some fiber and ease the digestion process.
