Our body is made up of cells. Cells usually appear and form in pairs. In one single pair, there are 8 electrons in total. Cellular level activities will lead to electron loss. because of this, a cell gets isolated. We call this cell as an oxidant. This cell tries to attract an electron from the neighboring cells. Micronutrients like Vitamin-C will give one of its electrons to this cell and solves the problem. This kind of damage controlling micronutrients is termed as anti-oxidants.
We cannot stop the formation of oxidants. Because, breathing, changes due to muscle growth, activities of our immunity system will naturally trigger the formation of oxidants. If we keep this unattended it can lead to many diseases, it can sometimes even lead to cancer. Beta-carotene, lycopene, Vitamin A, C, E, selenium, zinc salts have high levels of antioxidants.
