To clean the stomach they use castor oil, neem oil or a mixture of these two oils or taking enema are the common practices. Among these enemas is something that is been medically practiced for years. In the past, people allotted a separate day to clean their stomach. But our present busy lifestyle doesn’t even offer us enough time to clean our own home or living space. In this post, we will look into enema in particular, as to who needs it and what is the real purpose and uses of it.

What is enema?

Sometimes the poop that results due to digestion process from the food we eat, stays in the colon for some reason. If these wastes are not expelled, it leads to toxic build up and can lead to many bodily problems. At some point, this can damage the functioning of our digestive system and lead to constipation. Due to this, a person may experience continuous headache, back pain, tiredness, stress and many other problems. The process of cleaning up the colon using liquid is called as enema.

Are detox tablets and Enema the same?

Enema is a process of cleaning up the wastes present inside the colon. Taking detox tablets once in six months which leads to vomiting, diarrhea is a practice of detoxing the body. This process cleans the colon, small intestines, large intestines and many other internal organs. This process helps in the long term. But, the enema is a process of cleaning up the part above the anus, which includes colon and a part of large intestines. This will give temporary relief.

Who needs to be given enema?

What are the types of enema?

1. Cleansing Enema

This is done to clean the colon.
It is also done before undergoing a test called colonoscopy.
It acts as a cure for headache problems that results due to constipation

This is usually done by mixing water with certain motion loosening chemical, which will be injected through the anus. After this enema, all the wastes along with water will be expelled.

2. Retention Enema

This is also done to clean the colon of wastes. But during this enema, the liquid after it passes through the colon, it will be made to stay there for some time. By doing this the minerals present in the liquid will be absorbed. But doing this repeatedly can cause damage to colon tissues.

3. Barium Enema

This is carried out before undergoing X-ray and CT scan to check for tumor inside the colon.

Medical substances used in Enema

Most Siddha doctors just advice to use warm water for the enema. In some cases, they might advise their patients to use herbs, oils or ghee.

Before Undergoing Enema

Before taking enema its a must to take only foods as directed by Doctor. If possible a day can be spent just by eating fruits and vegetables before the enema. If it’s going to be taken at home, it’s necessary to analyze if there are any activities in the stomach. If our body releases gas, it means there are stomach activities.

Is it Good to Take Enema Regularly

There is nothing wrong in taking it with Doctor’s direction once per six months. But taking it regularly every day or having multiple sessions within six months time period can damage the internal colon tissues. Also totally depending on it regularly is a bad practice. Our anus has the capacity to expand and contract. Taking enema multiple times within six months time period can damage this capacity. Due to this, the body loses its natural capacity to completely dispose of the poop and body waste. The best way to keep the body clean is by practicing right food habits, sleep, exercise and healthy lifestyle.
